Sugarberry G1 TAF by JoieArt Sugarberry G1 TAF by JoieArt
Took another break from my thesis for another bout of ponies! This one is my favorite G1 pony redesigned to fit the G4 style. Sugarberry is one of the popular Canterlot elite, well known for her gourmet pastries. Her specialty is strawberry crumble! She has a rare trait known as “Pronounced Cutie Mark Repetition” also known colloquially as “Twice as Fancy.” It is a condition wherein one’s cutie mark appears all over their body instead of just their flank. It is believed to be a mutated offshoot of the “Cutie Pox” disease, but is completely harmless.

Oh goodness, she's adorable! You did a beautiful job with her cutie mark and her pose. Nice explanation for "Twice As Fancy"!

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed coming up with a possible reason-in-canon to explain it :)

cute! I like her. Do you have any YouTube videos on how to draw like this? Any tutorials? Any advise for me? I'm at a point in my drawing hobby where I'm ready to take it to the next level!! I want to make it look even MORE like the real cartoon. You seem to be just blow the level that I want to be at (please don't take offense to that. I LOVE your style. It's gorgeous. I'm just aiming for my art to look more like the actual show, where border lines are colored to match and such. First of course, I have to get to YOUR level, and I don't think I am quite yet). What can I do to get to your level??

Thank you! And whew, that's a huge question you just asked. Really the simplest answer is lots and lots of practice! I can actually draw ponies to look just like they're on the show, but I don't like doing it. It's not my particular style, and if I don't enjoy what I'm doing, there's no point to doing it.

The best way to achieve ponies looking fully "show accurate" is to draw them using vectors (programs such as Illustrator or Flash). So you'd have to learn those programs, be able to draw with vectors, and in general just practice drawing a whole lot. I've probably drawn over 1,000 ponies. Good luck!

Thanks. How should I practice? Just pause while I'm watching an episode and draw what I see or what? Also, could you give me a link to where I can get one of those vector programs please? :)

Both are available on Adobe.com. As a warning, they're pretty expensive. As for learning to draw ponies-- yes. I'd say pause an episode while you're watching, and draw what you see. And do it a lot! :)

By the way, I'm not working on 3D stuff yet, since the actual cartoon doesn't have a lot of 3D moments, so I'm mainly referring to how you get the shape and hair styles right. Thanks!

That's a really good explanation for the Twice as Fancy ponies! I bet Sugarberry always dresses in style, doesn't she?
